Dr. Stubbs is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. After several years of successful private practice, he returned to academia for subspecialty fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
While at Emory University he completed two fellowships in gynecologic surgery. His first fellowship was in Pelvic Surgery through the section of Gyn Oncology during which he participated in the management of all forms of gynecologic malignancies and pre-invasive lesions. Operations include radical hysterectomies for cervical cancer, cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer, radical vulvectomies for vulvar cancer and total abdominal hysterectomies, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomies and lymphadenectomies for the staging and treatment of endometrial cancers. In addition, he performed surgery for benign conditions occurring in the female pelvis, such as recurrent ovarian cysts, large uterine fibroids and Stage IV endometriosis requiring extensive debulking with large and small bowel resection.
After completion of his first fellowship he was then chosen for a second fellowship in Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Kovac, one of the world’s most experienced and innovative surgeons in the field of pelvic surgery. This fellowship focused on both surgical and non-surgical management of female pelvic floor disorders such as urinary or fecal incontinence, prolapse of the vagina, bladder, rectum, and/or the uterus, and fistulas of the bladder and rectum.
Dr. Stubbs then returned to Savannah to open Urogynecology Center of Savannah, formerly Savannah Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Center, and to specialize in the evaluation and treatment of female incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Dr. Stubbs is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Mercer University School of Medicine and served on the faculty at South College. He has taught advanced gynecologic/urogynecologic surgery on both a local and national level and has worked as a consultant for various medical companies in the research and development of new and innovative devices for female pelvic floor dysfunction.
